Phase 1

Sibling Priority

Guaranteed

If you already have a child in NYPS, your younger child gets guaranteed admission through Phase 1. This is the most secure path.

Phase 2A

Alumni Route

High (if alumnus)

NYPS has a strong alumni association. If you or your spouse is a former student, you can register under Phase 2A. Alumni membership should be secured well before the registration year. Note: Since 2022, 2A(1) and 2A(2) have been merged into a single Phase 2A.

Phase 2B

Parent Volunteer (PV) Route

Medium-Low

NYPS accepts parent volunteers but the program is highly competitive with limited slots. Applications typically open 2 years before your child's registration year. Minimum 40 hours of volunteer service required. Grassroots leader endorsement through the local RC/CC is an alternative path.

Hours: 80 hours minimum (higher than most schools)

Tip: NYPS requires 80 volunteer hours — double the standard 40. PV program is highly competitive. Apply as early as possible and be prepared for a multi-year commitment.

Phase 2C

Open Balloting

Very Low for >1km

NYPS has balloted for <1km in Phase 2C in most recent years. Applicants outside 1km have almost no chance. To be competitive, you must live within 1km of the school.

Housing Strategy for <1km

King's Road / Coronation Road area

Landed + Condos — Premium area — landed houses and older condos within walking distance

Bukit Timah / Duchess Road

Condos + Landed — Several condo developments within 1km radius

Farrer Road / Queen's Road

Condos — More affordable condo options, still within 1km

Rental Strategy

Expect to pay $4,000–$8,000/month for a 3-bedroom unit within 1km. Rental demand spikes during P1 registration year. Consider renting 1-2 years before registration and updating your NRIC address.

Purchase Guide

Properties within 1km of NYPS command a significant premium (10–20%). Budget $2M+ for a condo, $5M+ for landed.
